RPO × RTO = your DR tier
RPO (Recovery Point Objective): how much data can you afford to lose? 1 hour? 1 day?
RTO (Recovery Time Objective): how long can the business be down? 30 minutes? 4 hours?
These two numbers determine the backup architecture you need (on-prem / off-site / cloud) and the DR tier (active-active same-city / off-site DR / two-site three-center).
